Right now I am using a gaiam yoga mat that I am not too fond of. However I use Yogi Toes on the mat to help from slipping. Ashtanga is a very sweaty practice.
On my christmas list I have asked for my husband to purchase me the
E.C.O. Sticky Mat by Prana you can find at barefoot yoga.com
My Yogi Toes towel has saved me so much.
I also hear wonderful things about the Harmony Jade yoga mat.

I actually totally love both my gaiam mats. I have one that stays home & the other one is in the car (for the random yoga moments). They have just enough padding for me but not too much that I don't feel stable.

I think mats are just as varied as your personal practice. Try until you find the right "fit" for you.

I use the E.C.O. Sticky Mat by Prana and love it! I've had it for awhile and had an original eco sticky before this.. great brand.

I have a purple sticky mat that I purchased at a discount store ... it works for me!
Don't know the brand.
